Standards
3. Weather can be observed, measured, and described.
3a Students know how to use simple tools
(thermometer, wind vane) to measure
weather conditions and record changes day
to day and across the seasons
3b Students know that the weather changes
From day to day, but that trends in temperature or of rain or snow tend to be
Predictable during the season
3c Students know the sun warms the land,
air and water.

We all know ‘cause we’ve been told
Weather can be hot or cold.
Watch the forecast, I’ll tell you why
Weather can be wet or dry.

The wind is blowing, oh so hard
The leaves scatter in my yard
See the dark and cloudy sky.
Raincoat and umbrella keep you dry.

You’d better prepare, here comes a storm
A scarf and hat will keep you warm.
Not just a storm – it looks like snow
Grab mittens, a coat and off you go.

Windy days can be foretold,
When warm air is replaced by cold,
Wind can move a windmill too,
And spread the flower seeds that’s true.
Windy - Windy
Weather - Weather
Windy Weather affects me!

Rain is caused when clouds get full,
the water falls and makes big pools.
Rain can give us water to drink,
It helps flowers be pretty, I think.
Rainy - Rainy
Weather - Weather
Rainy weather affects me!

On real hot days the sun shines bright,
Some animals hide out of sight,
On cold days the sun doesn’t radiate.
and some animals will hibernate.
Hot - Hot
Cold - Cold
The temperature affects me!

Water condenses to form a cloud,
Sometimes thunder can be real loud.
Cirrus, stratus, cumulus too,
cloudy days make me feel so blue.
Cloudy - Cloudy
Weather - Weather
Cloudy weather affects me!
Wind here, wind there,
Wind blowing everywhere!

Blowing water making waves,
Gusting wind forming dust,
Breezing wind lifting birds,
Whistling wind creating power.

Wind here, wind there,
Wind blowing everywhere!

Dust in the wind carving rock,
Scents in the wind warning animals,
Seeds in the wind spreading plants,
Sails in the wind moving me!

Wind here, wind there,
Wind blowing everywhere!

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
I’m a meteorologist and I’m here to say,
I study the weather everyday.
Sometimes I check the radar, for pictures that I took,
But mostly I go out and take a look.

Rain, snow, and skies so blue
precipitation, condensation, Boogaloo!

I watch the weather from morning ‘til night,
I check the temperature using fahrenheit.
I help families plan what they will do,
and let them know if they can barbecue.

Rain, snow and skies so blue,
precipitation, condensation, Boogaloo!

If there is fog, the planes can’t land,
Farmers need the rain for their farmland,
Sun for the swimmers and snow for us to ski,
I will tell you what the weather’s gonna be!

Rain, snow and skies so blue,
precipitation, condensation, Boogaloo!

The Most Important Thing about Weather – Big book Text only
The most important thing about weather is;
while weather can change day to day,
we can predict the weather season to season.
Yesterday was sunny warm and bright,
my shadow followed me on the ground

Weather Big book text only
Winter, spring, summer, fall…Weather changes around us all
Weather consists of temperature, air pressure, and precipitation
It may be hot or cold outside, it may be sunny, cloudy, rainy, snowy or windy.
The weather changes what people do for fun.
Winter, spring, summer, fall…Weather changes around us all.
Temperature is measured with a thermometer. It tells us how hot or cold something is.
The air temperature changes depending on the time and season. It is warmer during the day and colder at night. It is warmer in the summer and colder in the winter.
Winter, spring, summer, fall…Weather changes around us all.
Air pressure creates wind. We tell the direction of the wind by using a wind vane.
Sometimes wind can be strong. Wind turns windmills to make electricity. The strong winds of a tornado can break up a building.
Winter, spring, summer, fall…Weather changes around us all.
Clouds are made up of many tiny drops of water. The drops join and get heavier. When the drops get too heavy, they fall as precipitation.
Precipitation is measured with a rain gauge. There are many kinds of precipitation: rain, snow, hail and sleet. Weather affects people’s lives in many ways.
